How Animals Survive Winter: A Helpful Science Video Worksheet Resource for Teachers and Homeschooling Parents

Updated: 3 days ago

Winter brings big changes to the natural world and it also brings great opportunities for seasonal science lessons. Many teachers and homeschooling parents look for clear explanations and age-appropriate content that help students understand hibernation, migration, and animal adaptations. My newest winter science video, How Animals Survive Winter, is designed to support those lessons with real examples, kid-friendly explanations, and strong academic vocabulary.

A deer survining winter that kids would love to learn about using the free video worksheet to work on listening skills winter animals, how animals survive winter, hibernation for kids, migration for kids, animal adaptations winter, winter science activities, winter animal lesson, elementary science winter, winter worksheets, hibernation migration adaptation, winter animal behavior, winter science unit, homeschool winter science, winter lesson plans, animal survival in winter

The video explains the three major winter survival strategies that elementary students need to know. Young learners hear what hibernation means and learn which animals hibernate in cold months. They also discover how certain animals migrate to warmer places when food becomes scarce. The video also explains how many species use winter adaptations such as thicker fur, color changes, and special behaviors that help them stay safe in harsh weather. These concepts are important in second-grade and third-grade science standards, and the video presents them in a way that teachers can use during whole-group instruction or small-group review.

Because winter units often include printable activities, I created a free matching worksheet that pairs with the video. Students match the terms hibernation, migration, and adaptation with clear examples that they can understand. This worksheet is useful for science centers, homework, bell work, or early finisher tasks. It also works well in homeschool notebooks where parents need quick activities that reinforce key vocabulary. The answers to the worksheet are found in the video, so students can check their own work while rewatching important sections.

Teachers and parents often search for winter animals, animal adaptations in winter, hibernation activities, winter science lessons, elementary science videos, and cold-weather animal behavior. This blog post and the linked resources support all of those needs. The content is simple enough for younger readers but still accurate for classroom instruction. If you are planning a winter unit, a lesson on animal survival, or a study of seasonal changes, this resource set can save time and provide strong, consistent explanations that fit Common Core science and informational text skills.

You can watch the full video on my channel and download the free worksheet to add to your winter science plans. Both tools work beautifully together to help students understand how animals survive winter through hibernation, migration, and adaptation.
